Graduates

Our goal
"to assist young men and women, as they enter the final and longest leg of their educational journey, to take full advantage of every opportunity to put their learning capacities and tools to work acquiring and advancing knowledge in subjects and endeavors of their own choosing ... for a lifetime of personal and professional development"

Greetings to our rising Juniors and Seniors

nostalgiaa wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life
lingerto remain in a place longer than necessary out of reluctance to leave

From first breath to last death, we find ourselves always looking ... backwards and forwards ... with mixed thoughts and emotions ... about whether to remain ... or where to return ... or if we should just go on. For some this takes only a moment ... for others it is an agonizing [if silent] eternity. But wisdom gives us some reliable advice:

"there is a time for every purpose under heaven ... a time to get, and a time to lose ... a time to keep, and a time to cast away."

In this spirit, we invite all our rising juniors and seniors [and any interested parents who wish to attend] to meet with us, Ken and Jim to talk about the schedule for next fall. We will outline the dual credit courses we will offer at Northfield and present you with a list of guest credit courses you are ready to engage at Friends University.

Remember that most colleges consider a dual credit course taken in high school to be less than 1/2 the academic credit of a college course. For example, a dual credit course that meets 5 days a week for a full academic year at Northfield normally earns only 3 credits, whereas a guest credit course that meets 3 days a week for a single semester at Friends also earns 3 credits.

Our rule of thumb is for every rising 11th grader to enroll in 2 [and every rising 12th grader to enroll in 3] morning courses of their choosing at Friends, although this will vary depending on your desire to engage in independent study. We are currently planning to offer our dual credit classes at Northfield in the afternoons.

Please get online and browse the most recent Friends course offerings to see what might be of interest to you ... and start thinking about it. With both Ken and Nathaniel teaching as adjuncts in the mornings at Friends in the Fall semester, we hope to have the Fall course schedule as soon as it is available ... you may even wish to take their classes!

It has been a great ride ... and each of you has provided wonderful company along the way ... but the best is yet to come. So let's get packing!

Bill & Nathaniel

PS. Once we have a firm date for our meeting we will let you know right here ... and it will be soon ... so stay tuned.
